King's College School, Wimbledon

King's College School was founded in 1829 by Royal Charter of King George IV as the junior school of the newly established King's College London, initially occupying the basement of the college building in the Strand. For much of the Victorian era it was housed in central London, distinguished by an unusually progressive curriculum — KCS appointed its first science master in 1855, decades ahead of most rivals, and by 1882 only Eton surpassed its tally of Oxford and Cambridge examination certificates. Falling rolls prompted a bold relocation in 1897 to a twenty-acre site on the south edge of Wimbledon Common, where the school has remained ever since, growing into one of Britain's most academically celebrated independent schools and a founding member of the Eton Group.Today KCS is consistently ranked among the top 30 senior schools in the UK and appears in The Schools Index of the 150 best private schools in the world.
