- This position is primarily remote. Candidates must reside in Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Florida, or Texas. Furthermore, post-conversion to permanent employment, this individual must be comfortable commuting or traveling to Baltimore, MD two-to-three times per month.
- Overview & Responsibilities Join a leading health plan in a high-impact role as a PBM Strategy and Implementation Consultant. Reporting directly to the VP of Pharmacy Management, you will be the key business leader driving a critical, large-scale project: the transition to a new Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM) and the implementation of an innovative financial model. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your deep PBM expertise on a strategic initiative with executive visibility and potential for permanent employment.
- Responsibilities include: Serve as the primary business owner and lead for the successful implementation of a new PBM and associated financial model.
- Manage business execution activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Collaborate extensively with internal stakeholders (PMO, IT, Operations, Business Sponsors) and external partners (Implementation Vendor, Incumbent PBM, New PBM).
- Provide project leadership, strategic direction, and ensure accountability for business deliverables.
- Facilitate integration of pharmacy business processes between incumbent and incoming PBMs.
- Support business readiness activities, including communication and stakeholder management.
- Contribute to contract management and vendor relationship oversight.
- Communicate project status, risks, and value effectively, including presentations to senior and executive leadership.
- Required Qualifications Must have proven, direct, hands-on experience leading PBM implementation or transition projects from the business side (e.g., at a health plan, PBM, or as a consultant directly managing the implementation).
- Strong knowledge and experience within the PBM industry, specifically understanding financial models (discounts, rebates) and operational areas (formulary management, network management, claims adjudication).
- Demonstrated experience in the Commercial pharmacy line of business.
- Minimum of 7+ years of total relevant experience in areas such as pharmacy supply chain, PBM operations, PBM contracting, or pharmacy business operations.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage complex projects in a matrixed environment, and drive execution.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior and executive stakeholders.
- Preferred Qualifications Experience with Medicare and/or Medicaid pharmacy lines of business.
- Experience managing PBM implementations across multiple lines of business (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid).
- Experience with PBM and supply chain contract negotiation and management.
