Perinton Presbyterian Church in Fairport, NY invites applications for the position of Music Director. We are looking for a dynamic person of Christian faith and character to guide and grow our vibrant, intergenerational music ministry. The Music Director will oversee all aspects of the church’s music life, ensuring that music enriches and supports every part of worship. Candidates should bring strong skills in both conducting and piano, along with proven abilities in leadership and organization. A broad knowledge of diverse musical styles is essential, as is the ability to inspire and work with adult volunteer musicians as well as children and youth. Responsibilities

Sunday Worship :

• Coordinate, prepare, and direct the music for Sunday worship services.
• Coordinate and/or supply special music when choir is not performing.
• Practice hymns with youth singers for the early service when needed.
• Collaborate with tech team to set up microphones and assist with sound check.

Choir Director :

• Coordinate, schedule, and direct the Adult Choir from September until early June.
• Run weekly Wednesday night rehearsals and Sunday morning rehearsals.
• Recruit new choir members and others from the congregation to share their musical gifts.
• Strike the right balance of well-known, accessible anthems with new and more challenging pieces.

Children’s Music:

• Oversee children’s and youth music ministries, including a weekly song time during Sunday School and periodic musical anthems during worship services.
• Collaborate with Sunday School team and help direct the annual Children’s Christmas Pageant.
• Schedule youth to participate in musical offerings in worship.

Special Music:

• Select and direct music portions of all holiday and special services of the church (i.e., Advent season, Christmas Eve, Lent and Holy Week services)
• Coordinate guest musicians for all special services as needed.
• Collaborate with our volunteer bell choir director as needed.

Summer Music:

• Organize volunteer and paid musicians to provide special music for Sunday worship during the summer.
• Assist in selecting music, accompany, and direct as needed.

Additional Tasks:

• Attend weekly staff meetings with the Pastoral Team to plan and select music for worship services and special events.
• Attend monthly meetings with the Worship Committee.
• Responsible for providing direction to church pianist.
• Supervise care, tuning and maintenance of the church’s piano, handbells and other musical instruments.
• Manage the Music Budget.
• Maintain the music library, inventory of the church’s musical equipment, copyright licenses, with the assistance of the Media Team.
• Pursue opportunities for professional development with approval of Pastor.
• Assume additional duties as assigned by the Pastor.
• Coordinate and/or supply special music when choir is not performing.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17,000.00 - $19,000.00 per year
