Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance Department

Reports To: Maintenance Manager and/or Production/Operations

Summary: Performs maintenance and repair on equipment by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Performs mechanical maintenance work on commercial trucks. This includes brake adjustment, filter changes, oil and coolant monitoring and changes, tire repair, and other various duties on commercial trucks.*

  1. Performs plant maintenance work on heavy equipment, screens, conveyors, and inside the plant.*

  1. Maintains all maintenance inventory and may order replenishment stock, as directed by plant manager or transportation manager.*

  1. May transport leaves via a commercial truck, within the site.

  1. May deliver loads on a back-up basis, if skills and certifications allow.

  1. Prioritizing and reporting on various maintenance issues.*

  1. May work with and/or direct maintenance subcontractors on site.

  1. May work with other maintenance technicians on group projects as assigned.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specialized Training:

Experience in mechanical repair, welding, commercial driving (class A) (transportation maintenance only), and electrical.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver's license (Class A for transportation maintenance)
