Job Description

The Laboratory Manager at Blue Dot Readi-Mix is responsible for overseeing all aspects of concrete trial batching, testing, and data validation to ensure product quality meets industry and project-specific standards. This role requires hands-on leadership in executing and managing 3-point curve testing, compressive strength evaluation, and lab data integrity while supporting broader operational and sales efforts. Reporting to the Director of Quality and Innovation, the Laboratory Manager also plays a key role in maintaining a clean, organized workspace, coordinating material logistics, and ensuring all lab operations comply with ACI and ASTM guidelines. Unlike traditional laboratory settings, the Ready Mix Lab Manager will be hands on with concrete, and assessing not only the physical properties of concrete, but also making observations about workability and consistency. This requires the lab manager to be outdoors often with full PPE and allows for more physicality than a traditional laboratory position. Concrete testing is typically fairly messy and can cause damage to equipment if not managed properly, so time management in order to ensure cleanliness is critical. The right candidate will be cognizant of the fact that this role will require getting one's metaphorical hands dirty (PPE will make that impossible in practice!) and that cleanliness in the lab is critical to long term success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, perform, and manage trial mix batching and 3-point curve testing in compliance with ACI and ASTM standards
• Conduct and document tests for moisture, air content, slump, and unit weight on trial batches
• Oversee compressive strength testing and reporting through the Forney Vault system
• Identify and report mix non-conformities or unexpected performance results to the QC team
• Maintain lab equipment, curing environments, and inventory of materials and supplies
• Accurately input testing data into standard templates and maintain documentation
• Support sales and submittal teams by providing technical documentation and design validation as needed
• Maintain clean and safe lab environments and uphold internal quality and safety protocols
