Community Engagement Manager
Location: Remote (with occasional travel to NY and Philadelphia)
Compensation: $60-65,000 annually

Position Overview:
The Community Engagement Manager will lead Sharing Excess’s efforts to build and strengthen relationships with diverse stakeholders, driving engagement and expanding the organization’s reach and impact in communities locally and globally. This role requires a dynamic, results-oriented leader who can foster meaningful relationships, lead volunteer growth, design innovative programs, and effectively represent Sharing Excess in various community settings. The Community Engagement Manager will oversee the full scope of community engagement activities, including planning, execution, evaluation, and reporting. Additionally, this role involves managing the Community Engagement team and working closely with various stakeholders to scale Sharing Excess’s impact through community-driven initiatives. This position will report to the Development Director.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Development & Volunteer Engagement:

  • Mentor and develop the community engagement team, fostering leadership and collaboration.
  • Lead volunteer recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts to grow the volunteer base and nurture long-term volunteer relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to build a robust volunteer program that supports Sharing Excess’s strategic goals.
  • Own and implement the community engagement strategy, ensuring it aligns with Sharing Excess’s mission and organizational objectives.

Partnership Expansion:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, and other key stakeholders to drive engagement.
  • Leverage partnerships to create new opportunities for community involvement, including major events and activations throughout the year.
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with diverse stakeholders, ensuring ongoing support and engagement with the organization.

Program & Event Management:

  • Design and manage community programs and events that align with Sharing Excess’s mission and are impactful for participants.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for Sharing Excess, enhancing visibility through community events, conferences, and public engagements.
  • Provide scripts, FAQs, and training materials for staff and volunteers to ensure accurate and effective representation of Sharing Excess.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, exploring new opportunities such as sponsored pop-ups and grassroots fundraising campaigns through volunteer-led chapters, grant
  • opportunities and other fundraising streams.
  • Produce detailed monthly reports on volunteer engagement, event outcomes, and other key metrics.
  • Set measurable growth goals for the community engagement program and use data-driven insights to assess and enhance performance.

Chapter Development:

  • Develop and implement strategies for expanding Sharing Excess’s chapter model regionally.
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement team to grow U.S.-based chapters, identifying opportunities to expand food rescue operations and volunteer capacity.
  • Create and distribute resources and toolkits for chapter leaders to ensure consistency and alignment with Sharing Excess’s mission and growth objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Environmental Science, Nonprofit Management, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience: 2+ years in community engagement, volunteer management, or a similar role, ideally within a nonprofit setting.
  • Leadership: Proven experience managing teams and fostering leadership development within a diverse group.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong ability to develop and execute strategic plans and initiatives, with measurable outcomes.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong partnerships and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Data-Driven: Comfortable analyzing data and using insights to inform decision-making and improve performance.
  • Passion: Deep passion for food justice, community-building, and nonprofit work.
  • Global Experience (optional): Experience with global or regional chapter-based expansion is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $65,000 annually.
